A link can carry context about where a visit began. UTM parameters add that context to the destination address, helping an attribution system distinguish one campaign from another.
Give each field a clear job.

Keep names consistent.
Choose a naming convention before sharing links. For example, use lowercase names and one format for campaign dates. Consistency helps prevent the same source from appearing under several spellings.
The destination still matters.
UTM parameters do not measure visits on their own. Your destination needs an attribution or analytics implementation that reads them. Test the final URL, including existing query parameters and any page anchor, before publishing it.
